The government deficit and debt worries over eight in ten French people, according to a survey conducted for Ifop Southwest Sunday.
According to the survey published Saturday, 82% of respondents say they are "worried", a quarter (25%) "very worried", in respect of the public deficit and debt.
The level of concern is below that achieved during the outbreak of the crisis in Greece in March 2010 (88%) and that observed in June (87%).
Half of respondents (50%) consider reducing the debt as "an absolute priority" for the coming months, as well as the fight against crime (50%) and higher wages and power purchase (51%).
In terms of advanced solutions to address the rise of debt and public deficit, a large majority of French people want to focus on two key steps taken by Nicolas Sarkozy's five-year period: the decline of 5.5% VAT provided there are two years to restaurants (62%) and the tax exemption of overtime introduced in 2007 (57%).
